Best Maui Beaches for Family Holidays with accompanying Arm Floaties that you should bring along for your kiddos

Arm Floaties 10
Maui is one of the most beautiful Hawaiian islands, with 30 miles of stunning sandy white beaches. Compared to the Big Island, it’s a much quieter and slower way of life, making it perfect for a relaxing family holiday. Some of the main concerns with beach holidays would be finding activities for the whole family to do, especially when you have children of varying ages. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to do, from windsurfing and surfing for older kids, and snorkeling and swimming for the younger kids. No matter the ages, these Maui beaches will ensure that your whole family has a splashing good time! An insider tip, most of Hawaii’s beaches are public and usually do not have concession stands or restaurants near the beach. So pack a cooler box of easy food like sandwiches to keep your bellies satisfied through the day! Oh, and don’t forget your floats. We’ll let you know our favorites below.

Kapalua Bay

Named America’s Best Beach in 1991, this beach is known for it’s gently breaking waves and rich marine biodiversity. This beach is particularly kid-friendly because the currents are lighter than other beaches, making it a safer swimming zone. The beach offers many types of water sports like snorkeling and scuba diving that might interest the older kids. They will be fascinated by the surrounding reefs that teem with colorful tropical fish and if you’re lucky, you might even sight some sea turtles! At the end of the day, head to the clean public toilets and showers to freshen up before heading to Merriman’s which open for dinner.

Napili Bay

Napili Bay is a great low-key beach that isn’t swarming with tourists. This sandy cove has stretches of green palm trees and golden shores. It is reminiscent of an older beach town, with mostly mid-range accommodation and none of the flash of luxury resorts. It’s less expensive than more commercialized beaches of Ka’anapali, making it a more popular choice among Europeans and families. The weather conditions are more erratic here, so do a quick weather check before you head out. Some days the waters are tranquil and perfect for snorkeling, and other days the windspeed makes it more suited for bodysurfing. The water swells can come in fairly strong, so if the waves are looking a bit rough don’t let the kids swim. There are bathrooms and restaurants in the immediate vicinity thanks to the resorts, and a shopping center nearer to the highway.

Honokowai Park and Beach

This beach isn’t exactly a prime swimming spot, there’s only a shallow pool between rocky ledges, which does make a good rock pool for kids. Snorkeling is also possible here, but it’s not exactly a “swimming” beach if you know what we mean. That being said, it’s a very pretty beach that is mostly for views rather than water activities. Picnicking is what people come here to do, so pack your blankets and baskets, and spend a nice lazy afternoon here! There are many takeout joints located near the beach, so if you’re too lazy to cook something you can get yummy grub like fish, tacos and Japanese from Okazuya for pretty cheap around here. The kids will most likely ask for shaved ice, a beach staple in Hawaii.

Kaanapali Beach North

This is one of the more luxury beaches of Maui, and while people might think that makes it a tourist hub, the northernmost part of the beach is relatively tranquil and undisturbed. There is a large parking lot and many clean bathrooms, making it a very convenient spot to spend the day. The snorkeling here is particularly good, and if the older kids are looking to learn, there are very good one-day dive certification classes that are taught here. The reef offshore is beautiful and plentiful with colorful fish to marvel at. You can even snorkel out to some stunning sandy coves, the waters here are gentle enough even for young swimmers to have a little adventure.

Salt & Pepper Beaches, South of Oluwalu

These beaches are known as “Park and Snorkel” because well, that’s exactly what you do! Situated along the highway off Lahaina is this unique beach. It is called Salt & Pepper because the sands look exactly like that — a mixture of soft white and black sand that is very unlike other grainy sandy beaches. The waves are so gentle you hardly even see them, making it a perfect spot for kids to enjoy splashing around and digging their toes into the impossible soft sands. When the day is over, pop over to Oluwalu General Store to get some delicious flavored shaved ice!

Ho’okipa Beach Park

Pro windsurfing is what draws the crowds here, and it’s truly a spectacle. Swimming is also possible, but it’s quite limited depending on the weather conditions. There are some small shallow pools good for kids, but the waves tend to be rougher here. No matter the case, you’ll be fascinated by the pro windsurfers who will amaze you by defying the waves. There are picnic tables nearby for you to bring some snacks and watch the show go on. It’s overall a very friendly beach full of local Hawaiian culture and atmosphere.
